Disconnect To Reconnect

Today's Friday Feature and first guest writer is all the way from Kansas City. And let me just say she might be living in Kansas City but her southern roots go deep. I first met this Southern Sister, Chrystan Ferrell, when we lived in Kansas City last year. I was invited to a Bible study she was hosting at her beautiful farmhouse. I was immediately drawn to her deep love for God, her zeal for life, and her desire to serve her family and others. She is an amazingly talented lady and she faithfully honors God with the gifts He has given her. She is a singer/songwriter, an author and blogger, she is a speaker and host for the Imperfectly Brave Conference. And if that wasn't enough, she just released her first Bible Study. I hope you will take a few minutes out of the hustle and bustle of your day to read this challenging and inspiring post. If you can't read it now, save it for later. Please, Please share this. It is wise, motivating and needed!!!! Enjoy...

Disconnect To Reconnect

We are the most connected generation that has ever walked the planet. From iPhones to Google, social media to 'there’s an app for that'. Connection is all over our thumbprint (literally), but is it the right kind of connection?

Studies are showing us as the loneliest generation, with 72% of us reporting that we are lonely weekly if not more. Maybe our connection is causing us disconnection?

How often do you reach for your phone the moment your eyes open? Are you scrolling through social media before you flip through the pages of the Bible? Are you connecting mostly online and rarely in person?

God made us to crave connection, true connection. A connection that starts with him and then pours out into fellowship with each other.

It’s not too late to change this in our lives! Here are a few changes you can make to get back to true connection:

1. Set up an intentional time for electronics and social media breaks. I wrote a post to help us fast from media. You can do it and will be amazed at how clear and free you will feel by the end of it! (http://chrystanferrell.com/disconnect-to-re-connect)Buy an alarm clock. I know, it’s crazy. But go with me. Plug your phone in in another room before you go to bed.

2. Set your alarm. Imagine how lovely it will be to sleep in peace (notification free) and to start your day with something more lovely. Like your husband, child or cat. Or the sunrise. Trust me, your phone doesn’t need to be the first thing you touch or see and it for sure isn’t good for it to be the last thing you see either.

3. Plan ahead to intentionally connect with people in real life. Go on walks with your husband, meet a friend for coffee, sit with a widow in her home and talk. Reconnect with real people, laugh out loud for real, enjoy God’s incredible creation.

Lovelies, don’t miss out on real life for a screen. And may we become a generation of Christian women who connect first to God and then to others before anything else!

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life (and phone) for one’s friends.” John 15:

Now, please go show Chrystan some love. To find out more from our Southern Sister (Texas born and raised) go to the links below:
