YOUR TONGUE BE FLAPPING

Follower of Christ Friday

Have you ever said something and then went "Ohh, wait, why did I just say that out loud?" Then you know you regretted it! Or perhaps you've thought something, almost said it, but had been able to catch yourself before you said it.

Either way the tongue was trying to flap.  Sometimes it seems like it is easier than controlling the wind, right? Did you know that The Word of God even alludes to tongue taming being a difficult task in James where it says "if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way." James 3:17.

Wow!  If we can control our tongue we could control ourselves in every. other. way.   That's pretty powerful if you stop and think about it!
I encourage you to read on in Chapter 3 of James as he describes just how powerful the tongue is. Everything from being like a rudder on a ship, or a tiny spark that makes a fire... go ahead, I'll wait right here while you go read it.  :-)

With ALL the passions that are flared with everything going on right now, everyone has an opinion.  Because of that we have EVERY opportunity to speak EXACTLY what we believe and feel.  Sometimes at the expense of others.

Only most of our speaking is done behind the shield of an electronic device.

James goes on in verse 8b [The Tongue] is restless and evil, full of deadly poison.  Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God and so blessing and cursing both pouring out of the same mouth.

If you turn back a few pages to James 1: 26  you’ll see
If you claim to be religious but don't control your tongue, you are fooling yourself and your religion is worthless.

SOOO guess what.... We can't be praising the Lord and then cursing our brother / sister in Christ with the same mouth and expect that to represent God well!  It doesn't.

Am I saying that you shouldn't or even can't post your opinion on social media?  No!  However, do I think we ALL need to consider what we say or WRITE as to whether it is going to alienate someone from a closer walk or even a beginning walk with Christ.

If you really want to reach people.  If you really want to make a difference in someone's life.  If you really want to impact the kingdom you will do one thing!!! LOVE them.  I didn’t say agree with them.  Then, they will know WHO we belong to.

Jesus speaks in John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you,, the you love one another, as I have loved, the you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are MY disciples, if you have love for one another."

Let us Love one another Y'all,

Brandi
